The Importance of Seasons - A Time For Everything Under The Sun

Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in seasons that God has already told us to move on from. When the children of Israel were on their journey to the promise land, they were at the Mount Sinai for a while learning about the laws of God and His instructions as they were about to enter into this promise. God said to Moses, " You have stayed at this mountain long enough. It is time to break camp and move on..." Deuteronomy 1:6-7 NLT.

For the children of Israel, a journey that was only supposed to take 11 days morphed into a 40-year season of wilderness, pain, but yet, the display of God's patience, faithfulness, and everlasting love. The children of Israel found themselves in this position because of disobedience to God's commands, and the Lord wanted to ensure that the residue of being in Egypt, a house of bondage, was cleansed from His people to the extent that He allowed the older generation that complained to die in the wilderness and not enter the promise land.

The Bible says "To every thing there is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven..." Ecclesiastes 3:1 AMP.

At a certain point during their journey in the wilderness, the children of Israel faced hunger and they started remembering the food they ate in Egypt, including the cucumbers and garlic. However, they forgot that Egypt was still a house of bondage; no matter the pleasures you may experience in a season of your life, when God says it's time to go. It's time GO, and don't look back.

When God is finished with teaching us a particular lesson in a specific season of our life, He expects us to move on. And I understand, you may have formed strong relationships, memories, or other connections with people, circumstances, or places in these seasons of your life. But what if these things are now old wine that you cannot pour into the new wineskin that the Lord is providing for you?

Life is experienced in seasons, and these individual seasons contain lessons that will help us carry through the subsequent seasons of our lives.  As the scriptures in Ecclesiastes 3 illustrate, God has made a time for every purpose and activity under the sun. The change of seasons are an opportunity to lean into our unique relationship with God as his children and believers in the Lord Jesus Christ as we seek his clarity and direction on how to navigate the specific seasons of life.

" He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [ a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God] -- yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end." Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMP

Sensitivity and discernment are key to receiving revelation on what season you are currently in. As mentioned in the scripture above. There comes a time in our lives, when we feel that it is time to shift, and we begin to have a nudge in our heart towards His purpose for our lives. However, if we are not quick to act on these nudges we can miss our Kairos moments, or the opportune time God wants you to act on His Word.

Recall a time when you received an idea to start a business or even travel or move to a specific city. As humans we can dismiss the little promptings that we receive in our hearts. But what if these are the very prophetic words that God has spoken over that you're overlooking?

Picture the "New Year Season." For many of you this may be marked with New Year Resolutions, prayers of inquiry, maybe asking the Lord to reveal to you what assignments or self-improvement He has for you in the New Year. What happens after you receive the answers to these prayers or even to your resolutions? A lot of times people end up starting them and abandoning several projects half way even sometimes missing the instruction of God for that season.

Even think about birthdays. Birthdays are a new season of life as well. The Bible says in Psalm 139:16 AMP "Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were appointed for me, When as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape]." This scripture further illuminates that God has our days numbered. He knows every second and every chapter of our lives, even at the turn of each birthday.

Okay, so maybe at this point you are asking, Lula, why all this talk about the seasons of life?

I want to share something that I believe could be a game changer for us all as children of God this year:

When we have DIVINE REVELATION and INSIGHT into the specific season that we are in, we will not be easily distracted, defeated, and we will have an anchor for our souls.

God called Abraham to leave his family, place of birth, and all that he was familiar with to a land he did not know. Yet, Abraham had a supernatural faith in God to trust the Word he gave him for that season of his life. God's prophetic promise to Abraham that He would be a father to nations and that his seed would be as numerous as the stars, made him to hope and wait with patience for God's timing. Hebrews 6:13-19.

Moses was the prince of Egypt for a season until God revealed to him that it was a new season to now deliver His children from Egypt. The Bible says that Moses put off his identity of being called the son of Pharaoh's daughter and "Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater than riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward." - Hebrews 11:24-27 KJV.

Pause here and reflect on your personal journey. Write down or call to mind what season you believe you may be in. Even if you can't immediately put language to it, I encourage you to pray and ask God to give you discernment of times and seasons like the sons of the tribe of Issachar (See 1 Chronicles 12:32).

Jesus says in John 8:12 "I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of Life." So, what the Lord is essentially telling us is that when we follow Him and His leading, then we will not dwell in darkness. We have light and direction. God's Words to us are a light to our feet and a guide to our path in every season of life. Psalm 119:105.

Whenever we don't have light, illumination, and clarity about the season we are in, we are like someone who is groping the walls to trying to feel around and discern the place that they are in. But when we have Jesus, we have light, and we walk in that light. We can clearly see that paths that he has set around us, and the world around us is no longer a dark place but a landscape of possibilities and a field to take for the Lord of Lords.

One way we can go about obtaining understanding of the season that they are in is through PRAYER & FASTING. The Bible says in Jeremiah 33:3 that we should call unto God, and He will answer us and show us great and might things that we know not. Often times, the Words we are running from person to person, prophet to prophet, or even YouTube sermon to sermon to receive,  God is waiting to give to us through our personal intimacy and ability to quiet our flesh before Him through fasting.

So, I'll end here! Here is my charge to you: make 2025 a year that you walk in the sensitivity of God's Words over your life and a year where you are sensitive to the times & seasons He has appointed for you!

Here are some beautiful scriptures on Times & Seasons:

- Proverbs 15:23 " A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!"

- Psalms 31:15 "My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me."

- Isaiah 43:18-19 "Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."

- Isaiah 60:1-2 "Rise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee."

- Habakkuk 2:3 "For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry."
